Navy sailor Cameron Bishop, 22, made a last-minute detour Wednesday to Parker Varney Elementary School after returning from an 11-month overseas deployment to see his niece, Meadow. Advertisement "I asked the principal or the front office, and they were like, 'Yeah, you can do it,'" Bishop said. "I was like, 'Sweet.'" The school helped keep the surprise a secret before he walked in wearing his uniform. A video shows Meadow jumping into her uncle's arms. "It was honestly awesome, to be honest. It felt really good," he said. "I haven't seen my family in so long, so it feels great to connect with my family again." "It's one of those things you can't not be moved by," Principal Andrew Sims said. Bishop served on the USS Abraham Lincoln, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier that spent nearly 11 months operating across the Pacific and Middle East. "Sometimes it doesn't feel real, because you were deployed for so long, but it's great to be back, to be honest," he said. Meadow got more time to hang out with her Uncle Cam on Thursday, making up for months apart. "He scared me," Meadow said. Bishop will be home for 21 days before he heads back.
